Bucknell's Swimming and Diving Completes Day One Of Trails/Finals Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. -Bucknell University completed day one of the first annual Trials and Finals Invitational in the Kinney Natatorium on Saturday. The Bison women ended the day with a 527 score, while the men finished with 691 points.
On the men's side of competition, Adam Freeman set the school record in the one-meter 11-dive competition with a score of 475.95 during the preliminary round. Freeman crushed the previous record, held by Bob Richards in 1973, by 61.17 points.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Michael Guskey, Jake Thieman, Michael Willats and Peter Garvin placed first with a time of 1:26.42. In the finals, Kurt McCoy (16:53.27), Gonzalo Diaz (17:11.63) and Brooks Steadman (17:14.33) placed second through fourth in the 1650 freestyle. In the 100 backstroke, Christopher Feinthel (54:38), Mark Kretzer (54:98) and Jack Sheehan (55:00) captured second through fourth during the finals competition.
During the 100 breaststroke, Stelios Saffos received the gold while clocking in at 59:79, which tied him for tenth on the All-Time list. Guskey placed second only nine-tenths of a second behind Saffos. In the 50 free, Garvin received the bronze with a time of 21:81 in finals. Matt Hallowell (2:00.37) placed first in the 200 IM. To close the scoring for the Bison Men on Saturday, Kretzer, Saffos, Michael Harrigan and Garvin captured the gold in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:34.90.
Many Bison women placed themselves on the All-Time charts during the first day of the two-day invitational. The 200 freestyle relay team, Meghan Freese, Mary Krakowski, Darby Golino and Erica Wild, captured a time of 1:38.38 in the final swim and placed themselves fifth on the All-Time list. Daniela Faas captured the gold in the 1650 free with a time of 17:44.91 and now stands eighth on the AT list.
Lectie Altman placed fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.73 and now stands eighth on the All-Time list. Pushing their way onto the All-Time list, Altman (59:85), Golino (59:89) and Freese (59:98) are now listed seventh, eighth and ninth the 100 backstroke. Jamie Flick captured a second place medal in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.77) and now stands second on the All-Time list.
Freese grabbed second place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.27 for the Bison. Sarah Petcavage received a silver medal in the one-meter 11-dive competition with a score of 327.13, which places her second on the Bucknell charts. Altman, Flick, Krakowski and Freese closed the scoring for Bucknell with a second place finish in the 400 medley relay (4:00.50, 8th All-Time) during the finals.
The Bison will conclude the Trials and Finals Invitational, Sunday, Dec. 8 beginning with trials at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
