OLEAN, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's basketball team dropped a 14-point decision for the second game in a row, falling at St. Bonaventure, 78-64, on Friday, November 22. The Bison fall to 0-2 for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
The Bucknell squad got off to a quick start, building a 7-0 lead after just over two minutes of play, thanks to several St. Bonaventure turnovers. The Bonnies would not go easily, however, quickly surging a comeback to lead 14-13 four minutes later. The two squads went back and forth over the next two minutes before St. Bonaventure mounted a 15-5 run that spanned over five minutes to take a commanding 32-20 lead. The Bison trailed by ten, 39-29, at halftime thanks to a last second jumper by freshman Lindsey Geosits.
The Bonnies were hot in the opening stanza, connecting on 51.7% (15-29) of their shots, compared to just 38.7% (12-31) for the Orange and Blue.
St. Bonaventure wasted little time in the second half, pushing the lead to 15 with two quick scores. Senior Molly Creamer answered with five points in 30 seconds to get it back to a 44-34 game, but that was as close as the Bison would get the rest of the way. The Bonnies went on to lead by as many as 24 (70-46), before a late push by Bucknell got the Orange and Blue within the final margin of 14.
Bucknell couldn't get the offense clicking in the second, shooting just 31.4% (11-35) from the floor for a 34.8% clip for the game, while St. Bonaventure hit 40.0% (12-30) in the final frame for a 45.8% accuracy for the contest. The Bonnies also held a commanding 49-31 advantage in rebounding.
Creamer and senior Kate Franks led Bucknell with 17 points each, both on 6-18 shooting from the floor. Junior Desire Almind was also in double figures with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Eva Kadlecova led all players with 22 points and 10 rebounds for St. Bonaventure.
Bucknell is in action next when it opens the home ledger with West Virginia on Monday, November 25, at 7:30 p.m. The Bonnies are 1-0 on the year.
