STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Tanisha Wright scored eight of her 19 points during a key second-half run as No. 14 ranked Penn State beat Bucknell 86-72 Friday night in the opening round of the preseason WNIT.
Molly Creamer had 11 points, including three long 3-pointers, during a 19-9 run that brought Bucknell (0-1) to 55-51 with 14:05 left.
Creamer went to the bench with her fourth foul with 13:07 left, however, and Wright scored eight straight points for Penn State (1-0) during a 13-6 run that gave the Lady Lions a 68-57 lead and put the game out of reach.
Kelly Mazzante, the nation's scoring leader last year, had 25 points for Penn State, which advances to face Siena, an 83-66 winner over Syracuse. Jess Brungo scored 18 points, and Jess Strom had 10.
Bucknell took its only lead, 20-19, after Creamer's 3-pointer and two free throws by Jennie Ruth. But Jennifer Brenden and Brungo both hit 3-pointers a 14-2 run that put the Lady Lions up for good.
Creamer led the Bison with 28 points, and Desire Almind added 26 points and 10 rebounds.
