LEWISBURG, Pa. - Cara Turner and Amy Marvel scored first-half goals and Sonja Wettergreen stopped five shots in her second shutout of the year, as Bucknell defeated Lehigh 2-0 Saturday in a Patriot League field hockey game at West Field.
The Bison outshot Lehigh 23-7 en route to a much-needed conference victory. Bucknell is now 5-6 overall and 2-2 in Patriot League play, while Lehigh is 2-9, 0-3.
Despite controlling play for the bulk of the first half, the Bison did not dent the Lehigh cage until the final nine minutes of the period. Turner scored her first goal of the year with 8:56 left in the half, and Marvel clicked on a penalty stroke with 33 seconds left until intermission. Marvel has converted penalty strokes in back-to-back games - both Bucknell victories.
Mountain Hawk goalie Jeanine Hoff kept her team in the game with 11 saves in the first half and 14 overall. Lehigh managed only one shot in the first half to Bucknell's 15.
The Bison return to action this Tuesday at sixth-ranked Penn State. Game time is 7 p.m.
