Bucknell Women's Tennis Competes at Regional Event

BOSTON, Mass. - The Bison women's tennis squad had three players competing at the ITA Regionals, held at Harvard on Friday-Sunday, October 25-27, 2002. Sophomore Nadezda Curcic and freshman Veronica Brown entered the tournament in singles play, while freshmen Rheanna Gaskin teamed up with Brown in the doubles portion.
In singles play, Brown opened the first day in the qualifying rounds. The rookie won her 10th straight match with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Dartmouth's Annie Scott. She then dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Masha Kabanova of Syracuse in the second round. On the second day, Brown was awarded a "Lucky Loser" opportunity to play on, but she came up short against her opponent from St. John's, losing 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) to conclude her fall singles season.
Curcic faced a player from Boston University in her first round, dropping a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 decision to end her fall season.
In doubles action, Brown and Gaskin won their first round bout against their opponents from Coppin State, 8-0. The duo then squared off against Penn State's number one doubles team, dropping an 8-4 decision for their final fall doubles match.
The Bucknell women's tennis fall season is complete.
