LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Carli Cataldo and Amy Marvel scored goals 59 seconds apart in the opening half to pace Bucknell in a 2-0 victory over Siena in a non-conference field hockey game on Tuesday afternoon. The Bison cast aside a three-game losing streak and improved to 6-9 on the season, while Siena fell to 5-9.
At the 22:13 mark of the first half a pair of Bison rookies teamed up to break a scoreless tie. Cataldo tipped home a pass from Kirsten Nilsen for her third goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. Just under a minute later, Marvel pocketed her fourth goal of the year, coming on a penalty stroke. Marvel is now 3-for-3 on strokes in 2002.
Backed by the strong goaltending of Liz Jordan and Sonja Wettergreen, Bucknell's solid defense held Siena to only three second-half shots and seven for the game. Jordan, a freshman, made her first collegiate start and chalked up three saves in the first half. The veteran Wettergreen came on in the second half and picked up one save. It was the third shutout of the season for the Bison.
Nilsen was credited with four of Bucknell's 11 shots and notched her first career assist.
After four straight non-league affairs, the Bison return to Patriot League competition this Saturday against Fairfield in the final home contest of the season. Game time is 12 p.m.
