TOWSON, Md. - Jamal White caught two touchdown passes to lead the Towson (5-2, 3-1) to its third consecutive Patriot League victory, a 20-14 Homecoming win over Bucknell (2-4, 0-2) at Towson Stadium.
White, who had four receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns, caught a 29-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left in the first half to send the teams to the locker room tied at 7-7.
The Bison took a 7-0 lead in the middle of the second quarter when freshman Blamah Sarnor capped a 46-yard, five-play drive by scoring on a one-yard TD run. An interception by defensive end Gary Carruthers at the Towson 46-yard line set up the drive, and Sarnor put the Bison in scoring position with a 21-yard carry to the Towson 2.
The Tiger defense held the Bison without a first down for most of the second half. However, reserve quarterback Cole Ciesnolevicz came off the bench to lead a 78-yard, 14-play drive that resulted in an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jim Horan with 2:48 left in the game.
Bryan Fitzpatrick recovered the ensuing onsides kickoff and the Tigers ran nearly two minutes off the clock, with quarterback Jay Amer scrambling for a key first down on a third-and-7 play. Bucknell did force a Towson punt, but regained possession with only 17 seconds remaining, and a desperation pass was intercepted as time expired.
The Tigers held a sizable advantage in time of possession. Towson had the ball for 34:30 as compared to Bucknell's 25:30. In the second half, the Tigers controlled the ball for 18:45.
Both teams were penalized 104 yards in a penalty-filled game. Bucknell had 10 penalties for 104 yards while Towson was penalized 11 times.
Bucknell's loss was its fifth straight on the road, and the Bison fell to 0-2 in league play for the first time since 1992. Bucknell visits Georgetown next Saturday at 1 p.m.
