Oct. 20, 2002
Bucknell fell to 0-2 in conference play for the first time since 1992 with a 20-14 loss at Towson ... backed by two TD catches from Jamal White, the Tigers avenged a 51-10 loss at Bucknell last season ... with the game tied at 7-7 early in the second half, Towson's Steve Hessler intercepted a Todd Wenrich pass and returned it 29 yards for a TD ... Wenrich was 9-for-11 passing prior to the interception, but just 2-for-7 after ... Wenrich left the game with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter ... sophomore QB Kyle Fields played one series before giving way to sophomore QB Cole Ciesnolevicz, who was impressive ... Ciesnolevicz completed 10 of 15 passes for 96 yards and tossed his first career TD pass to WR Jim Horan to make it a 20-14 game with 2:48 remaining ... Wenrich finished 11-for-18 for 71 yards and two interceptions ... the 71 yards marked his lowest passing total since throwing for 58 in his collegiate debut at Richmond in the 2000 season opener ... Horan has now caught touchdown passes in three straight games, matching the feat accomplished by WR Albert Marquardt earlier this season ... prior to this season, no Bison had caught TDs in three straight games since Brad Bernardini in 1992-93 ... Horan took over lone possession of second place on Bucknell's all-time receptions list ... he now has 147, which is 26 shy of Tom Mitchell's school record ... Horan also moved into third place on the BU all-time chart for receiving yards, passing Lester Erb and Ron Rockett ... Horan now has 1,851 career aerial yards ... despite the subpar second half, Wenrich passed Kerry Snow for seventh place on Bucknell's all-time pass completions list with 299 ... freshman RB Blamah Sarnor had another strong game, finishing with 120 total yards - 67 on the ground and 53 through the air ... Sarnor staked the Bison to a 7-0 lead late in the opening period with a 1-yard TD run, which was set up by his own 21-yard run to the Towson 2 ... Sarnor also hauled in a career-high six catches to lead all players ... the Sarnor TD was made possible by a terrific defensive play by senior DT Gary Carruthers, who tipped a Jay Amer pass at the line of scrimmage and plucked the ball out of the air at the Towson 46 ... it was Carruthers' second career interception ... Bucknell received 12 tackles each from sophomore ILB Kevin Ransome, junior FS Mike Leatherman and junior ILB Stephane Pluviose ... Ransome and senior OLB Billy Windle each had four tackles for loss ... Ransome had two of Bucknell's five sacks ... senior OLB Joe Massey recorded his 21st career sack, just 4.5 shy of the Bucknell record ... Windle started for the first time at outside linebacker in place of senior OLB Juan Morales, who suffered a season-ending injury against Colgate ... Towson RB Matt Romeo rushed for 105 yards on 30 carries, becoming the first opposing player to top the century mark since Colgate's Randall Joseph in the final game of the 2000 season, a span of 16 games ... with his two PAT conversions, senior K Chris Lundberg tied the Bucknell record for points scored by a kicker with 178 ... Steve Barimo also accrued 178 points from 1986-89 ... sophomore TE Ian Nutt made his first career start and caught one pass ... the Bison travel south again this week, visiting Georgetown next Saturday at 1 p.m.
