Bison Swimming & Diving Teams Split at Lehigh

Bethlehem, Pa. - Bucknell's men's and women's swimming and diving teams split at Lehigh on Saturday afternoon. The Lehigh men captured a 174-126 win, but the Bison women prevailed in a close meet, 159-139.
Bucknell's women improved to 5-2, while the men are 3-3.
Sophomore Meghan Freese, junior Darby Golino, freshman Jamie Flick and sophomore Sarah Petcavage each captured two events for the women's team. Freese won both the 50 free (25.03) and the 100 free (54.06), while Golino placed first in the 100 back (1:00.26) and the 200 back (2:07.43). Flick came out on top in the 200 breast (2:27.34) and the 100 breast (1:07.51), and Petcavage won both diving events. Petcavage recorded a score of 197.475 in the 1 meter diving and a mark of 216.90 in the 3 meter.
The women's team also won both relay events. Freese, Flick, freshman Ashley Aiken and senior Abby Weaver placed first in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.19, and the 400 free relay team of Feinthel, freshman Robin Gibson, Freese and Weaver touched the wall first in 3:38.66.
The men's team picked up six individual victories on the afternoon. Freshman Adam Freeman was the Bison's lone double-winner, as he placed first in both diving events. Freeman posted a 254.25 in the 1 meter diving and a 240.375 in the 3 meter.
Other event winners for the men's team included junior Stelios Saffos, sophomore Peter Garvin, junior Stephen Schwanhausser and junior Gonzalo Diaz. Saffos won the 100 breast in 59.60, and Garvin placed first in the 50 free in 21.69. Winning the 200 breast in 2:10.64 was Schwanhausser, and Diaz won the 500 free in 4:50.59.
The meet was the final dual of the season for both Bison squads. Their next competition will be the Patriot League Championships Feb. 14-16.
