LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University indoor track & field teams concluded the first annual "Gulden Relays" this afternoon in the Gerhard Fieldhouse, and two Bison were named as meet MVP's.
After winning the 500m dash and anchoring the winning 3,200m relay team, senior Stephanie Bango was named as the women's track MVP. In the 500, Bango missed the Bucknell school record by just a tenth of a second, as she won the event in 1:15.37. Bango's 3,200m relay team placed first in a time of 9:20.69 on day one of the meet Friday evening.
Freshman Maria Garcia was selected as the women's field MVP in honor of her performance in the 20-pound weight throw on Friday evening. Garcia placed first in the event with a throw of 49'10 ?", a mark that was nearly four feet better than her nearest competitor. It was also the fifth-best throw in Bucknell history.
As a team Bucknell's women won seven of 12 events, including three of the four relays, on the second day of competition. Senior Samanta Klotz, sophomore Kelly Avila, junior Edwina Bourn and freshman Kiley MacDonald placed first in the shuttle hurdle relay in 35.13, while senior Kelly McConnell, MacDonald, senior Chris Crowe and senior Becki Marshall teamed up to capture the distance medley relay in 12:29.20.
