Bucknell Track & Field Teams Complete Day One of Gulden Relays

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's and women's track & field teams completed day one of the non-scoring "Gulden Relays" this evening in the Gerhard Fieldhouse.
The meet consists of Bucknell, Bowie State University, Monmouth University, Moravian College, Robert Morris College, Ursinus College and Western Maryland College.
Five events (55m hurdles, weight throw, 3,000m run, long jump, 3,200m relay) were contested in both the men's and women's competition.
Two Bucknell athletes - junior Greg Costello and sophomore Maria Garcia - picked up individual victories, and the women's team also won the 3,200m relay. Costello won the 3,000m run in 8:30.84, while Garcia used a heave of 49'10 ?" to come out on top in the 20 lb. weight throw. Garcia's throw was the fifth-best all-time at Bucknell. Finishing second in the weight throw was sophmore Erin Lee, and her toss of 46'1 ?" is the ninth-best throw in school history.
In the 3,200m relay, freshman Amy Calvo, senior Kelly McConnell, senior LaTonya McSwain and senior Stephanie Bango clocked a winning time of 9:20.69, over 18 seconds faster than their nearest competitor.
Day two of the meet begins tomorrow at 11:30.
