Simon Leads Women's Soccer Over St. Joseph's, 3-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Kristie Simon scored her first two goals of the season, including the game-winner in the 83rd minute, leading the Bucknell University women's soccer team to a 3-2 non-league win over visiting St. Joseph's University Sunday afternoon at West Field.
The Bison bumped their record to 5-2-0 with the victory and improved to 3-0-0 at home. St. Joseph's fell to 3-2-1.
With the score tied at 2-2 with 6:28 remaining in the game, Simon took a corner from junior Karla Killian and bounced in a header from inside the box and into the top of the net. The assist was Killian's first of the season.
Despite out-shooting St. Joseph's 6-4 in the first half, the Bison went into halftime trailing 1-0. The Hawks took an early lead midway through the first half when junior Katie Watson punched in a left-footer from 12 yards out with 26:09 to go in the half. St. Joseph's goalie Aleshia Kornecki held off Bucknell in the opening stanza, making six saves.
Bucknell came out firing in the second half, and scored twice in a 3:31 span to take a 2-1 lead. Simon put the Bison on the scoreboard with 38:59 left on a 20-footer that found the upper left corner of the net. Three and a half minutes later, senior Ali Chandler scored on a header from point blank range for her third goal of the season. Senior Sarah Klang-Glienna registered her second assist of the season on the goal.
St. Joseph's rallied to tie the game at 2-2 when junior Jodi Young converted on a direct kick from the left wing with 10:04 to go.
Junior goalie Laurie Purse posted five saves on the afternoon for Bucknell, while Kornecki stopped nine shots for St. Joseph's.
Bucknell picks up its Patriot League schedule Saturday when it hosts Colgate University at noon. St. Joseph's returns home to play St. Bonaventure at 7 pm. on Saturday.
