LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Emily Keber scored the game-winning goal with 2:22 remaining, and the Bucknell University women's soccer team defeated Colgate University 2-1 in Patriot League action at West Field this afternoon.
With the win the Bison upped their record to 6-2-0 (1-1-0 Patriot League), its best start in school history. Bucknell also improved to 4-0 at home, and snapped a six-game losing streak against the Raiders, last season's Patriot League regular season champion. Bucknell last defeated Colgate in 1995.
Colgate dropped to 4-3-2 and 1-1-0 in league play.
With the score knotted at 1-1, Keber drew Colgate goalie Kate Jassin to her right before potting a close-range shot into the back left corner of the net. The goal was Keber's second of the season.
Bucknell took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Savannah Rennels tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season 8:07 into the contest. Senior Mandy Palladino gave Colgate the equalizer 8:15 later with she bounced in a header following a corner pass from senior Meghan Merriman.
Junior Laurie Purse picked up five saves in goal for the Bison, while Jassin stopped four shots for Colgate.
The Bison return to action next Saturday when they travel to Holy Cross in another Patriot League match-up.
