LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell junior Jess Hetrich has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of September in golf.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, Sept. 10. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of September, as selected by their respective coaches, were senior Erin Plasteras in field hockey, senior Shannon Walker in volleyball, sophomore Savannah Rennels in soccer and senior Kristin Ferrell in cross country.
Hetrich placed 52nd among 162 competitors to lead the Bison to a 25th place finish at the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic, held this past weekend at Myrtle Beach. After shooting an 83 in the opening round of the tournament, Hetrich came back strong on day two with a 78-stroke score, which tied for the second-best 18-hole round by an individual at Bucknell all-time. She wrapped up tournament play with an 81 over the final 18 holes, giving her a final score of 242.
The golf team returns to action on Sept. 22-23 at the Yale Invitational.
