HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate University's Colyer Curtis made the most of a Mark Biron cross in a one-time shot to the upper left corner of the net in the 79th minute to lift the Raider men's soccer team past Bucknell, 2-1, Saturday night at Van Doren Field. It was the Patriot League opener for both teams.
With the Raiders up 1-0 for almost the entire first half and much of the second after a Zach Stuppy goal just 5:39 into the game, sophomore Chris Beekman (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) knotted the game at 1-1 in the 73rd minute, putting senior captain Andrew Aurand's (Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg) cross into the back of the net, volleying the pass out of the air.
The last 11 minutes of play were full of chances for both teams, including a Bucknell direct kick from six yards out with five minutes remaining.
Colgate's Jon Brunell earned the win for the Raiders, making two saves in 90 minutes of play. Bucknell sophomore keeper Steve Whitaker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) had four saves for the Bison.
The Bison fall to 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in Patriot League play. The Orange and Blue are in action again on Saturday, September 29, when they host Sacred Heart for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.
