LEWISBURG, Pa. - Will Flemons, a former player and coach at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, joins the Bucknell women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant to the Bison. "We think that Coach Flemons is a great hire for our women's basketball program," said Bucknell head women's basketball coach Kathy Fedorjaka. "He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge, and we really think that he will have extremely positive impacts in the areas of recruiting and post play."
Flemons comes to Bucknell from Texas Tech University where he was most recently an assistant basketball coach for the Red Raiders men's basketball program. From August of 1999 until 2001, Flemons was active in all facets of the Texas Tech men's basketball program, including over-the-phone recruiting, offensive and defensive practice schemes, and the pre-game scouting process for opponents.
Flemons also served as an assistant men's basketball coach with Texas Tech from August of 1994 to July of 1997. During this stint, he was responsible for organizing all travel arrangements, handling the video exchange program with opponents and providing academic checks on each player.
Prior to his second coaching tenure at Texas Tech, Flemons was the athletic director, physical education coach, and head boys basketball coach at All-Saints Episcopal School in Lubbock, Texas, from August of 1997 until July of 1999. While at the school, he was responsible for organizing schedules, games and tournaments for each sport. In addition, Flemons was accountable for providing evaluations on staff job performances and students' academic accomplishments.
A 6-8 forward, Flemons was a member of the Texas Tech men's basketball squad from 1988 to 1993. As a rookie in the 1989-90 season, he was named the Freshman Of The Year in the Southwest Conference. Two years later, as a junior, he was awarded Player Of The Year honors in the same conference, and rounded out his collegiate career with Southwest Conference Offensive Player Of The Year accolades in 1992-93. Upon completing his eligibility with the Red Raiders, Flemons went on to play in the European Basketball League in France from July of 1993 to April of 1994, before receiving his bachelor of arts degree in exercise and sport science from Texas Tech in May of 1994.
At Bucknell, Flemons' responsibilities will include full involvement in recruiting prospective student-athletes and scouting upcoming opponents. In addition, he will be primarily responsible for post player development, while assisting in the day-to-day practice regimens. Flemons will also serve as the women's basketball team's travel coordinator and the contact for Bucknell's unique Sideline Coaching Program.
Bucknell has ranked among the nation's leaders in the graduation rate of its student-athletes in recent years, including best-in-the-nation accolades in 1992, 1993 and 1996. During the 2000-01 academic year, Bison student-athletes were awarded seven of the 22 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete citations, which topped the conference for the ninth straight year. Bucknell also claimed a league-high 249 members of the 2000-01 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, which honors student-athletes who achieve a 3.20 grade-point average during the semester coinciding with his/her sport.
