LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell University junior distance-running standout Becki Marshall (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine Bush Central) and Lafayette College senior field hockey and women's lacrosse all-star Alison Fisher (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) were selected Patriot League Women's Co-Scholar-Athletes of the Year by the League's sports information directors.
Marshall and Fisher are the first women to share the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in the 11-year history of the Patriot League. The only previous co-winners of the Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor were Bucknell football all-star David Berardinelli and Colgate All-League distance runner Ray Appenheimer in 1993.
Marshall is a civil engineering major with a 3.75 grade-point-average and has won two-straight cross country Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards as well as the 2001 indoor track & field honor.
The 2000 Bucknell cross country co-captain started her junior season by winning her second-straight Patriot League individual title, leading the Bison to their third-straight team crown. A member of the Patriot League All-Decade team after competing for just two season on the collegiate level, she missed qualifying for the NCAA cross country championships by one place at the regional championship. At the Indoor Track & Field championships, she earned All-League honors for the third-straight year with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. She was also named to the Verizon Academic All-District II Fall/Winter At-Large team.
The Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year was selected from the Scholar-Athlete award winners from the 11 Patriot League championship sports. Candidates must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in her sport. The winners are selected in a vote of the League's sports information directors and the Patriot League staff.
Marshall is the second-straight Bucknell woman and fifth Bison student-athlete to capture the award in League history. Former BU athletes to win the award include indoor track & field standout Bob Kelly (1992), Berardinelli, outdoor track & field champion Ron Hess (2000) and women's basketball all-star Lori Houck (2000).
