Lewisburg, Pa. -- Bucknell junior Stephanie Bango (Smethport, Pa./Smethport) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of February in Women's Indoor Track & Field. It is the second straight month she has received the award.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, April 2. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of February, as selected by their respective coaches, were senior Ashley Evans for lacrosse, sophomore Laura Maisel for tennis, junior Kelly Dugan for softball and senior Julie McLaughlin for water polo.
Bango came up huge for the Bison in their final month of the indoor season. She was named ECAC track athlete of the week following her performance in the 400-meter, 800-meter run, 4x400-meter relay, and 4x800-meter relay at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships. She took home four gold medals in the championships. In addition to her ECAC honor, Bango was also named the Patriot League Championship women's track athlete of the meet. Bango also earned All-League honors for the Patriot League, being named to the first team.
The women's track & field team is currently beginning their outdoor season and will be in action again this weekend, hosting the Bucknell Invitational.
