Annapolis, Md. - The Bucknell men's golf team finished in a tie for 10th place at the Navy Spring Invitational today with a final total of 625 (323-302). Helping the Bison finish 21 strokes better than their first-round total was sophomore Jimmy Freeman (Laguna Niguel, Calif./St. Margarets) who shot an even par 71 after Saturday's 81 to finish tied for 17th in the tourney.
The Bison were one of only five teams to shoot better in the second round than the first round and had the second best team score on Sunday (302). Leading the way was Freeman with a two-day total of 152 and close behind was freshman Charles Markey (Southampton, Bermuda/Saltus Grammar School) with 153. Markey had been the low medallist for the Bison after Saturday's round of 77 and followed that up with a 76 to tie for 20th individually.
All five Bucknell golfer's improved on their scores from the first round as senior Ken Kosteva (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) finished in a tie for 26th at the invitational by shooting a 74 to improve by six strokes after a first round score of 80. Also figuring into the mix for the Orange and Blue was junior Nick Leibowitz (Danbury, Conn./Deerfield Academy) and senior David Horton (Broad Top City, Pa./Tussey Mountain) who shot two-day totals of 167 and 168, respectively.
The men's golf team will look to redeem themselves in a couple of weeks as they return to the same USNA Golf Course for the Patriot League Championships on Friday-Sunday, April 20-22.
