Lewisburg, Pa. --- Bucknell sophomore Khadija Shariff (Lansowne, Pa./Upper Darby) has received the Subway Athlete of the Month Award for the month of April in Outdoor Track & Field.
The award was announced at the monthly Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, held Monday, April 30. Sponsored by Lewisburg Subway, the luncheon recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each Bucknell women's sport in season at that time. The other winners for the month of April, as selected by their respective coaches, were sophomore Brandi Porter in softball, seniors Jessica Smith and Stephanie Sturm in crew, sophomore Nicole Kallis in lacrosse, and sophomore Lindsay Chesterfield in water polo.
Shariff started off the month of April with a fine showing at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. where she competed in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. She took second in the event with a time of 61.61, which reset her school record with a lower mark. The next weekend at Bucknell's only home track meet of the outdoor season, Shariff won the 400IH's with a time of 1:02.78. Shifting gears at the Metro Invitational hosted by Mount St. Mary's College, Shariff ran the 400-meter dash in 58.04, which placed her fourth and moved her into the sixth all-time slot at BU. She most recently competed at the Penn Relays where she ran the intermediate hurdle event in a time of 62.51.
The women's outdoor track & field team will prepare to three-peat at the Patriot League Championship meet this coming weekend May 4-5, in Worcester, Mass.
