ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's golf team is currently in fourth place after 27-holes of play in the Patriot League Golf Championship being held at Navy's par-71 golf course. The Bison are still in striking distance going into the last day of competition trailing the leading school, Colgate, by 15 strokes. Colgate is leading with a team total of 441.
The Orange and Blue finished the first day of competition with a team total 456, only three strokes behind Lehigh, which is in third place. Leading the charge for Bucknell is sophomore Jimmy Freeman (Laguna Niguel, Calif./St. Margarets) who is in a tie for fifth place individually after shooting 75-37 this afternoon. Close behind Freeman is senior captain Ken Kosteva (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) who is in a tie for seventh overall. Kosteva shot three over par 74 on the first 18-holes and then slipped off the pace a little bit shooting a nine-hole round of 39.
Also figuring into the mix were junior Nick Leibowitz (Danbury, Conn./Deerfield Academy) and freshman Charles Markey (Southampton, Bermuda/Saltus Grammar School). Leibowitz, still smarting after last year's mishap on a scorecard, finished with a 115 after shooting 74-41. Only two strokes behind Leibowitz is Markey who finished the 27-hole afternoon with a 117, 76-41.
The men's golf team will continue with competition tomorrow, Sunday, April 22, as they look to cut into Colgate's 15-stroke advantage on USNA's golf course.
