Record Breaking Hammer Throw Earns ECAC Athlete of the Week Honors For BU Athlete

Lewisburg, Pa. - Bucknell University's freshman Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week following her performances at the Income Tax Classic at Christy Mathewson Stadium on April 14.
This ECAC weekly honor is one of three for the BU Track team this week.
Garcia broke Tria Tyler's '99 school record in the hammer throw on Saturday when she tossed the hammer a distance of 175' 4". Her toss broke BU's previous record by five feet and also earned her first place honors in the event. Broadening her experiences in the weight events, Garcia also competed in the discus with a throw of 98' 7".
The Bucknell men's and women's track & field teams will travel to Emmitsburg, Md. this weekend for some stiff competition at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, April 21.
