#15 Men's LAX Team Wins Sixth Game of Season By Defeating Lafayette 9-4 In Conference Match-up

Lewisburg, Pa. - The Bucknell (6-1, 3-0) men's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four games this afternoon with a five-goal victory over Lafayette, 14-9. Supplying the firepower this afternoon for the Bison was sophomore Dennis Geraghty (Kings Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) who tallied five goals in the contest to bring his season total to 24.
Lafayette (2-3, 0-2) was the first team to get on the scoreboard in the game as sophomore Pat Lennon (Darien, Conn./Darien) poked it past the Bison keeper at 14:14. This would be the only lead that the Leopards would ever see in the game as the Orange and Blue went on to rattle off four straight goals. Sophomore Rob Lane (Boonton Twp., N.J./Mt. Lakes) got the wheels turning for the Herd when he tallied two quick scores in a row for Bucknell, his eighth and ninth tally's of the season. Three more goals from junior Brian Loesch (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg), sophomore John Terracciano (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and Geraghty would help the Bison develop a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Senior Kevin Bromby (Ipswich, Mass.) was credited with the Leopards second goal, his 22nd of the 2001 season.
The Orange and Blue continued to dominate the game as they shut the Leopards out in the second quarter. Increasing the Bucknell lead to 7-2 during the quarter were sophomores Kelly Hogue (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) and Andrew "Worthy" Sanders (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) with one goal each.
As the sky began to clear up during the second half, both teams played to a 7-7 tie in the half and a final score of 14-9. Bucknell controlled the third period of play by out scoring Lafayette 7-2. During the third quarter, Geraghty scored his second, third, fourth, and fifth goals of the contest. Lafayette turned on the burners in the fourth quarter attempting to make a late game comeback but eventually would come up a little short. Tallying two goals during the fourth stanza was senior Morgan Battle (Princeton, N.J.) for the Leopards.
Sanders and Hogue ended up with two goals a piece in the contest to join Geraghty and Lane with multiple scores. Lennon led Lafayette with three goals and Battle chipped in with two.
The Bucknell goalkeeper, sophomore Justin Sussman (Towson, Md./Friends School), recorded 16 saves in the contest and his third Patriot League victory of the season. Senior Duncan Woodard (New Canaan, Conn.) stopped 11 Bison shots in the game.
The Lafayette Leopards will return to Easton, Pa. for their next contest on Wednesday, March 28, against the Stony Brook Seawolves. The Orange and Blue will look to extend its four-game winning streak to five, as they will play #3 Maryland on the road on Tuesday, March 27, at 4:00 p.m. This game will be broadcast by the Bison Sports Network on WMLP 1380 AM-Lewisburg and via the internet, www.BucknellBison.com.
