Outdoor Track & Field Throwers Launch Season With 49er Classic

Charlotte, N.C. - This weekend the Bucknell track & field team began its outdoor season by sending its throwers down to the 49er Classic at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Several Bucknell athletes found themselves on the all-time top-ten performers list at Bucknell at the conclusion of the meet.
In the women's hammer throw, freshman Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) came 2 ?" away from breaking the Bucknell record in the event. Garcia finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 167' 8 ?". This mark is the second best hammer throw in BU history.
Freshmen Justin McKnight (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) and Stephen Finlan (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) launched themselves onto the top-ten list for the javelin throw by finishing first and third in the event, respectively. McKnight recorded the victory by throwing the javelin a distance of 199' 10", which is the fifth longest mark on the Bison charts. Finishing third in the event with a toss of 170' 11", Finlan moves into the seventh slot on the Orange and Blue all-time performers chart.
As the snow begins to melt and the ground thaws, the entire Bucknell outdoor track & field team will launch its season at Susquehanna on Saturday, March 31.
