LEWISBURG, PA - Bucknell University's Stephanie Bango (Smethport, Pa./Smethport) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week following her performance in the 400-meter, 800-meter run, 4x400-meter relay, and 4x800-meter relay at the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday, February 17-18.
This ECAC weekly honor is the fourth for the Bucknell's women track team this season and Bango's of the indoor season.
Bango led the Bison to a second place finish this weekend in Annapolis, Md. at the indoor conference championships. She was the member of two gold medal relay teams as well as the only dual winner on the squad. Running the 400-meter run for the first time this season, Bango won the event in a slow heat with a time of 57.07. Her time was not only good enough to win the event but also was second best in BU history. She was also a member of the 4x800-meter relay team, which she anchored to a time of 9:12.96, eighth fastest on the school's all-time performance charts. Bango completed the conference meet by being named the Patriot League Championship women's track athlete of the meet.
The Bucknell men's and women's track & field teams will begin to prepare for the outdoor season and those members of the team who qualified for the ECAC/IC4A meet will travel to Boston, Mass. on March 3-4. Bango will be headed to the ECAC Championship meet to compete in the 400-meter and 800-meter runs along with the 4x400-meter relay.
