VMI Tops Bucknell on the Diamond, 10-9

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman second baseman Jon Hadra knocked in three runs, including the go-ahead run in the fourth inning to lift VMI to a 10-9 victory over Bucknell in the final game of a three-game weekend series played Sunday afternoon at chilly Patchin Field.
Bucknell (2-1) got off to a fast start, scoring three times courtesy of two Keydet fielding errors. VMI would answer, scoring four times in the bottom half of the first, fueled by RBI singles from Rob Riley and Justin Briggs and a RBI double by Andy Barden.
After a Bucknell run in the second to even the score at 4-4, the Bison added four more in the top of the third sparked by a solo home run from first baseman Russ Lindberg (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) and a two-run single from catcher Brad Gething (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum). However, VMI (2-5) would narrow the Bucknell lead to 8-6 in the third after Hadra's two-run single to left field driving home Briggs and Jason Annis.
The Keydets would score four times in the bottom half of the fourth to retake the lead at 10-8. The inning was highlighted by Briggs' RBI single and Hadra's sacrifice fly to center scoring Briggs with the go-ahead run.
Phil Hendrix pitched 6-2/3 of relief allowing only three hits and one earned run, while Kevin Miller (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) picked up the loss for the Bison.
Bucknell travels to Georgetown for a doubleheader next Saturday, while VMI will play at Richmond on Tuesday.
