Bison Drop Second Game Of Season To Liberty, 6-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. - A four-run sixth inning and a complete game by Flames starting pitcher Dan Valentin helped Liberty to a 6-1 win over Bucknell today at Worthington Stadium.
Joey Monahan led off the third inning with a walk, stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Larry Wayne York for the Flames first run of the ball game.
Back-to-back doubles by Monahan and York in the fifth inning resulted in the Flames leading 2-0 after five complete innings.
Anthony Pennix hit his third home run of the season to lead off the sixth inning to give Liberty a 3-0 lead. Kelly Knouse walked, then Trey Miller singled to left field, advancing Knouse to third. Steve Baker then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Knouse.
With two outs in the inning, Graham Sikes was hit by a pitch and Matt Hagan followed with his first home run of the season to left centerfield, giving the Flames a 6-0 advantage.
Bucknell's only run of the game came in the top of the ninth when Russ Lindberg (Sr., 1B, Cleveland Hts., Ohio) homered to left field bringing the score to 6-1.
Valentin pitched a complete game, giving up a run on five hits and three walks while striking out 11 to earn his second win of the season. Chris Lackatt (Jr., RHP, Wall Township, N.J.) (1-1) suffered the loss for the Bison allowing six runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in six innings of work.
Liberty (5-0) and Bucknell (2-2) will play again tomorrow in a double header Sunday, February 25, starting at 12:30 p.m.
