Bison Field Hockey Falls to Fairfield, 3-2, in Patriot League Action

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Bucknell freshman Meiko Boynton tied the game, 2-2, at the 28:41 mark of the second half, but the host Fairfield Stags scored less than a minute later to go ahead 3-2 and win by that score in Patriot League field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.
Fairfield broke the scoreless deadlock at 24:22 of the first half when Iza Kotowski put the ball on the stick of senior Karen Zanleoni to give the Stags the early 1-0 lead. With 13:35 left in the first period, freshman Kiki Bruggink found Kotowski to make it 2-0 Fairfield.
Bucknell avoided taking the two-goal deficit into halftime when senior Erin Plasteras tallied her first goal of the season with 1:59 left in the frame.
The Bison got even just over six minutes into the second when Boynton took a pass from senior Melissa Maher to make it 2-2.
With 27:49 left in the game, Kotowski netted the game-winner on a penalty corner set by senior Alexia Kennedy and senior Andrea Bialaski.
Fairfield goalkeeper Lauren Thomas recorded four saves for the Stags, while Bison goalkeeper junior Sonja Wettergreen stopped seven of Fairfield's 14 shots.
Bucknell falls to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the Patriot League. The Orange and Blue return home for their final two regular season games, hosting St. Francis (Pa.) on Oct. 23 at 6:00 p.m. and closing out the 2001 home ledger with Patriot League newcomer American on Oct. 27 at 2:30 p.m.
