HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Larissa Carso's first goal in two seasons snapped a scoreless tie in the 29th minute of the contest, and Bucknell yielded only four shots against in a 2-0 blanking of Colgate in a Patriot League field hockey game on a frosty Wednesday evening.
Carso tipped in Annie Hunsicker's pass with 6:20 remaining in the first half, providing the Bison with the only goal they would need. Lauren Campbell provided some insurance 11 minutes into the second half when she scored on a direct corner. Melissa Maher and Dena Ebert drew assists on Campbell's third goal of the campaign.
Bison goalie Sonja Wettergreen was called upon to make two saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season. The four shots on goal were tied for the fewest by a Bucknell opponent this season, matching the total of LaSalle in a 1-0 Herd win on Sept. 18.
Bucknell (6-8, 2-3) picked up 15 shots of its own, including a game-high six off the stick of Hunsicker, and held an 11-7 edge in penalty corners. Sara Corcoran made eight saves for the Raiders (3-12, 1-5).
The victory snapped the Bison's five-game losing streak and kept them in the hunt for a Patriot League Tournament berth. Each of Bucknell's last three victories have been shutouts.
Bucknell returns to action this Saturday with another Patriot League road tilt at Fairfield beginning at noon.
