LEWISBURG, PA - Bucknell University's Stephanie Bango (Smethport, Pa./Smethport) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week following her performance in the 800-meter run at the Penn State National Open on Saturday, January 20.
This ECAC weekly honor is already the ninth for Bucknell's track team this season.
Bango, who already owns the fastest time in BU history in the 800-meter run, finished fourth at the competition in the 800-meter with a time of 2:09.43. With this time Bango qualifies for the NCAA's as a provisional and also breaks her own Bucknell record in the 800-meter run by a half second. Bango previously had run a career-best 2:09.93 in the 800-meter. Her excitement was not done for the day as she and her 4x400-meter relay team qualifed for ECAC's later in the afternoon with a fine run of 3:53.05, fourth best in school history. This is the second time this indoor season that Bango has been recognized by the ECAC for her efforts on the track.
The Bucknell men's and women's track & field teams will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. this weekend to take on Patriot League foe, Colgate, in a dual meet on Saturday, February 3. On Sunday, the Bison will travel to East Stroudsburg for another dual meet in preparation for the upcoming Patriot League Championships.
