Bucknell Women's Basketball Improves to 4-1 in Patriot League Play

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led four Bucknell women's basketball players in double figures scoring, and junior captain Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) recorded career-high's in points and rebounds as the Bison defeated Colgate, 93-83, in Patriot League action on Wednesday, January 24.
The Bison scored first in the contest, but then went over two minutes without a score as the Red Raiders jumped ahead 6-2. With the score tied at 18-18 with 10:23 left in the half, Colgate mounted a 14-7 run to take its largest lead of the frame, 32-25, with 6:41 to go. The Orange and Blue responded with a 14-7 run of their own, including seven from Creamer, to tie the contest at 39-39 to enter the locker rooms at the break. Creamer had 13 at halftime and junior Vicki Quimby (Wilson, Pa./West Lawn) scored 10 on five-of-five shooting in only six minutes of action.
Both teams shot well from the floor in the frame with Colgate connecting on 51.7% (15-29) of its shots and the Bison hitting 51.5% (17-33) of their shots.
The second half was similar to the first in that neither team could get a substantial lead. Bucknell grabbed a 41-40 advantage at the 18:43 mark and built it to five, but Colgate would eventually come back to tie it at 47-47 with 15:00 left to play. The Red Raiders took over, 60-59, at 9:03, and it went back and forth for the next two minutes before Bucknell again gained a four point lead, 68-64. Colgate's Frances Boone hit five three-pointers in the second half to keep the Red Raiders in the game.
With the score tied 72-72 with 4:50 left to play, the Bison were clutch at the free throw line, making 12-of-13 shots from the charity stripe.
Creamer finished the night with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field. Quimby ended the night with 24 points, going 9-of-11 from the floor. LeBlanc hit a career high 17 points, in addition to pulling down a game and career-best 12 rebounds. Freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) was also in double-figures for Bucknell with 12 markers.
Bucknell improves to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in Patriot League play. The Bison travel to Lehigh for a 5:30 p.m. Patriot League contest with the Mountain Hawks on Saturday, January 27. Colgate drops to 3-14 on the year and 0-4 in league play.
