Bucknell Women's Basketball Team Falls to Binghamton, 84-71, in Davis Gymnasium

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bess Greenberg led four Bearcats in double-figures scoring with 23 points as visiting Binghamton defeated Bucknell, 84-71, in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday, January 22.
Bucknell opened the game on a 7-0 run, hitting its first three shots of the contest. After a made three-pointer by Binghamton cut it to 7-3, the Bison put together an 11-5 run, keyed by six points from sophomore Kate Franks (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola), over the next 3:30 to extend its advantage to 10 points with 13:55 to play in the stanza. The Bearcats battled back, using a 12-3 spurt of their own, including seven from Greenberg, to cut it to one (21-20) at the 11:05 mark of the half. The Orange and Blue pushed the lead back to 10 (31-21) with 8:39 to go, but the Bearcats outscored Bucknell, 24-11, in the final 8:30 of the opening half to carry a 45-42 lead into the locker room.
Neither team could get the offense flowing early in the second half, but it was Bucknell that scored first at the 17:43 mark to cut it to one, 45-44. That was as close as the Bison would get as Binghamton held the lead for the entire half. Trailing by 16 with 5:49 to go, the Orange and Blue got to within nine (75-66) behind eight points from sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) in a 9-2 run over a 1:17 span. The Bearcats made seven of seven from the free throw line in the final four minutes to hold on to the lead for the win.
For Binghamton, Greenberg led the way on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor, while Sarah Cartmill finished the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Also posting a double double for the Bearcats was Leah Truncale with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Kim Shaw scored 11 for the host team.
For Bucknell, Creamer led all scorers with 25 points, going 9-of-18 from the floor. Joining her in double-figures was freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) with 15, Franks with 12 and junior Vicki Quimby (Wilson, Pa./West Lawn) with 10. Quimby and junior captain Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) shared team-high rebounding honors with nine each.
The Bison fall to 12-5 on the season, 6-2 in Davis Gymnasium. Bucknell gets back into Patriot League play with a game at Colgate on Wednesday, January 24. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
Binghamton improves to 13-5 on the year. The Bearcats travel to New Haven for a 5:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, January 24.
