PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bucknell women's soccer team improved its record this evening to an even 2-2 with an exciting 1-0, two overtime win at St. Joseph's.
After 90 minutes of play the Bison and the Hawks of St. Joseph's remained tied 0-0. In only its fourth game of the season, this was already the second overtime contest for the Orange and Blue. After one 15-minute overtime period, Bucknell was still unable to penetrate the Hawk's defense. Looking to put the game away early into the second overtime, freshman Kristie Simon (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) ripped a shot on the St. Joseph's goal keeper who was able to turn the shot away from the goal. Fortunately for the Bison, junior tri-captain Ali Chandler (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) picked up the scraps and one-timed the rebound into the back of the net for the game-winning goal, putting an end to 105:54 of scoreless play.
In goal for the Bison, collecting her second shutout of the season was sophomore Laurie Purse (Marysville, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy), who only had to make two saves behind a stingy Bucknell defense.
The Bucknell women's soccer team has now won two games in a row and will play their next game at home against Duquesne on Saturday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m.
