LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the Patriot League and 3-4-1 overall with an exciting 3-0 victory over visiting Colgate on Saturday, September 23. Colgate falls to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Just under 18 minutes into the contest, Bucknell senior Geza Lendvai-Lintner (Madison, N.J./Madison) scored what would prove to be the game-winner. Senior Sam Graziano (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo Regional) and sophomore Brian Johnson (Creamridge, N.J./Notre Dame) were both credited with an assist on the play. Nearly 17 minutes later, freshman Chris Beekman (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) tallied his second collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore Elliott Maruffi-Cowley (North Branford, Conn/North Branford). The 2-0 lead would stand until halftime.
Bucknell came out firing in the second stanza, building the advantage to 3-0 on a goal by junior Andrew Aurand (Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg). Graziano picked up his second assist of the game on the play, and Lendvai-Lintner was also credited with a helper.
Colgate put the pressure on for the remainder of the game, outshooting the Bison 15-5 in the second frame, but the early lead was too much to overcome and Bucknell went on to take the shutout victory.
BU freshman goalkeeper Steve Whittaker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) earned his second shutout, stopping 11 Red Raider shots. Colgate's goalie, Jon Brunell (Holden, Mass./St. John's), had four saves in the contest.
Bucknell hosts Monmouth for a non-league game on Wednesday, September 27, for a 5:00 p.m. start time.
