COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER: BUCKNELL 3, Navy 2
Annapolis, Md. --- The Bucknell women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games this evening when it defeated Navy in its Patriot League opener 3-2. This is the first time the Orange and Blue has won against Navy since the 1995 season (in '96 the two teams tied).
The Bison came out of the gates with a head of steam in the first half when they scored two goals to Navy's zero in the first 45 minute stanza. Freshman Savannah Rennels (Rector, Pa./Latrobe Area) netted her third goal of the season when she took a pass from junior Sarah Klang-Glienna (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and buried it in the back of the net. The Orange and Blue received their second tally of the game only two minutes later when freshman Kristie Simon (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) scored her on a chip shot over the charging Midshipmen goalkeeper.
Navy, entering the second half with a two-goal deficit to overcome, tallied two quick goals off the foot of junior Justine Fisher. The first Fisher goal was scored from four yards out and the second off a penalty kick. Bucknell responded to the pressure well and scored the game winner when Simon stole the ball from 15-yards out and netted her sixth goal of the season.
The women's soccer team is now 4-2 on the season and take on Lehigh at home on Sunday, September 17, at 1:00 p.m.
