LORETTO, Pa. Sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) scored a career-high 28 points to lead Bucknell to an 81-73 victory over St. Francis-PA in Loretto Wednesday evening. The Bison improved to 6-1 on the season with the win.
Creamer connected on nine-of-14 shots from the field (64.3%), including all three of her three-point attempts, to pace a Bison offense that placed three players in double-figures. Junior forward Vicki Quimby (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line and chipped in a season-high 22 points, while sophomore Kate Franks (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Oseola) contributed with a season-high 16 points. Freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) got into early foul trouble and was held under double-figure for the first time all season with seven points.
Bucknell held a 42-35 lead at the break and seemed to take control of the game with a 14-2 run to begin the second stanza. Two free throws by Almind gave Bucknell a 56-37 lead with 16:38 to play. However, the Red Flash (0-5) responded by outscoring the Bison 32-14 over the next 13:37 to close within one at 70-69 on a layup by Latitia Williams with 2:59 remaining.
The Orange and Blue clawed their way back to a five-point lead, and a three-pointer by Franks with 0:51 left gave Bucknell a 77-71 advantage. St. Francis was forced to foul, but the Bison converted all four free throws to win for the sixth time in their first seven outings.
Bucknell returns home to host Harvard on Saturday, December 9. Tip-off in Davis Gymnasium is at 1:00 p.m.
