EASTON, Pa. - In a battle of the Patriot League's top two teams, Bucknell and Lafayette took the game to the 110th minute of play before the host Leopards came out on top with a 1-0 double overtime victory in men's soccer on Wednesday, October 25.
After playing to a scoreless regulation, the Bison and Lafayette headed into overtime. The two teams battled through the first 15 minutes of extra play with neither team able to capitalize. Just five minutes into the second extra session, Lafayette's Paulo Coelho headed a pass from Marko Lukin into the upper right corner of Bucknell's net, past Bucknell goalkeeper Steve Whitaker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga), to give the Leopard's the 1-0 double overtime win and hand the Orange and Blue their first overtime loss of the season.
Bucknell falls to 8-8-2 overall on the year and 3-1 in Patriot League play. The Bison playoff hopes are still alive, as they host Navy on Sunday, October 29, at 4:00 p.m. With a win, BU will clinch a berth in the Patriot League tournament for the first time since 1993.
Lafayette improves to 6-9 on the season and extends its current win-streak to four games. The Leopards improve to 4-1 in Patriot League play.
