COLUMBIA, S.C. - College of Charleston captured its
first Gamecock Soccer Classic Sunday with a 6-0 win over Bucknell
in the Gamecock Soccer Classic. Bucknell went 1-1 at the tournament
and moves to 8-7-2 on the season. With wins over Lehigh and Bucknell,

The Cougars wasted no time getting on the board, scoring its first
goal in the second minute of the match. Sophomore Marc Gaskins
took the pass from Jeff Files and Sean Warren to give C of C the
1-0 lead.
At the 10:15 mark of the first half, the Cougars increased their
lead to 2-0 with Sean Warren's third goal of the season. Warren
took the ball from a Bucknell defender and slipped it past the
Bison goalkeeper Steve Whitaker (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga). Before
the half ended, the Cougars' Steffen Schollaert scored his fifth
goal of the season to give Charleston the 3-0 halftime lead.
The Cougars remained aggressive in the second half, scoring two
second-half goals. At the 78:22 mark, Schollaert just missed
a goal, hitting the cross bar. The ball bounced off a Bucknell
defender and reached the back of the net. Just over a minute
later, the Cougars struck again with a Jason Dowiak penalty kick.
With less than four minutes remaining, Charleston scored its sixth
and final goal. C of C's Diogo Schlosser beat Bucknell keeper
Whitaker on the breakaway for his first goal of the 2000 campaign.
Charleston goalkeeper Wes Martino did not allow a goal in two
matches and earned the Defensive MVP honors. The remainder of
the all-tournament team will be announced after the South Carolina-Lehigh
match.
Bucknell returns home for an important Patriot League contest
at two-time defending conference champion, Lafayette, on Wednesday,
