LEWISBURG, Pa. - Colgate's Johanna Harvey scored 5:12
into the first overtime session to give the Red Raiders a 3-2
Patriot League victory over Bucknell in field hockey on Wednesday,
October 18.
After playing to a scoreless first half, Bucknell got the scoring
started when junior Melissa Maher (Marcy, N.Y./Whitesboro) connected
on a pass from senior Maura Higgs (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan)
and classmate Dena Ebert (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional)
just 5:55 into the second stanza. That 1-0 lead held for over
20 minutes before the Red Raiders struck back with 8:54 remaining
in regulation when Colgate's Kristine Thomas scored her first
of two goals on the day to knot the game, 1-1.
Just two minutes later, Thomas scored again to put Colgate up,
2-1, with just under seven minutes to play. After turning it up
on offense, the Bison were awarded a penalty stroke with 2:21
remaining in the game when the Red Raiders' goalie covered the
ball. Junior Lauren Campbell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) made
the most of her opportunity, tallying the game-tying goal.
But it was Colgate who got the final score when Harvey got one
by Bucknell goalkeeper Sonja Wettergreen (Norwalk, Conn./Brien
McMahon) with 9:48 remaining in the first extra session to give
the Red Raiders the important 3-2 Patriot League victory.
Bucknell falls to 7-8 overall on the season and 2-3 in the conference.
The Bison host Fairfield on Saturday for a crucial Patriot League
matchup. Colgate improves to 2-12 on the year and 2-3 in the Patriot
League.
