Field Hockey Wins Important PL Contest Versus Fairfield

Lewisburg, Pa. --- On an afternoon that included the
recognition of three seniors playing in their final home Patriot
League contest, the Orange and Blue earned themselves an important
victory. The field hockey team played host to the second place
team Fairfield and under the strength of three first half goals
were able to win the contest 3-2.
The Bison jumped off to a quick start in the first half when
junior Dena Ebert (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional)
scored her eighth goal of the season off a pass from senior Maura
Higgs (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan). Coach Lewis' squad didn't
stop there but proceeded to score two more goals in the first
half before Fairfield was able to retaliate. Junior Melissa
Maher (Marcy, N.Y./Whitesboro) helped Bucknell build a 3-0
lead by scoring two tally's in a period of 1:43, starting with
the first goal at 23:09 in the first half. Maher brings her season
total to nine goals. The second goal, which would later prove
to be the game-winner, was assisted by sophomore Amy Marvel
(Newtown, Pa./Council Rock).
Facing a 3-0 deficit, the Stags were able to tally one score
before the end of the first stanza when sophomore Kim Reidy scored
with 16:37 remaining. In the second half, Fairfield was able to
get a quick strike when sophomore Dani Brown scored her 10th goal
of the season at the 33:26 mark. Fortunately for Bucknell this
would be the last score for Fairfield, giving the Bison a 3-2
victory.
The field hockey team improves to 8-8 on the season and more importantly finishes with a 3-3 conference record keeping its hopes alive for post-season action. The Orange and Blue will play again this Tuesday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y to play against the Big Red of Cornell.
