In Seventh Overtime Contest Of Season, Bison Fall To Villanova 2-1

Villanova, Pa. --- This afternoon the Bucknell women's
soccer team found itself in yet another overtime contest. Up
until today, the Bison owned an 11-2-7 record in overtime contests,
however the two is now a three after Villanova defeated the Orange
and Blue 2-1 in double overtime.
Bucknell was first to scratch the scoreboard when freshman
Savannah Rennels (Rector, Pa./Latrobe Area) scored her
seventh goal of the season after receiving the ball from junior
Ali Chandler (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula)
on a corner kick. The first Bison tally came at the 21:18 mark
and held up for the rest of the first half.
In the second stanza, Villanova mounted a formidable attack
that was able to penetrate the Bison defense and tally a goal
at 60:36. The Wildcats' first goal came off the foot of junior
Jessica Painchaud when she rifled the ball from 10-yards out over
the head of the Bison goalkeeper Purse. This tally would be the
last goal for either team in regulation.
For the seventh time this season, the Orange and Blue prepared
for overtime. Both teams played hard during the first OT but
to no avail, neither could get a good shot on net. The contest
would need another extra period to decide the victor, not to mention
this was the fifth time the Orange and Blue have needed two overtimes
to decide a contest this season.
In the second overtime period, the Wildcat's were able to score
the game-winning goal at 113:44 when sophomore, Quinn Sellers
picked up a great cross from Painchaud and put it into the back
of the net. With the victory, Villanova improves to 9-8 on the
season.
Bucknell falls to 7-6-1 on the season and will have an important conference match-up at home this weekend versus Lafayette. The contest will be on Saturday, October 21, at 1:00 p.m. and will honor senior tri-captain Kristen Erb (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), as it is her last home game at Bucknell.
