Roger Wright-Lester

Roger Wright-Lester joined the Bucknell coaching staff as a defensive assistant in July 2024. As a former Army sergeant, he has been part of the Soldiers to Sidelines coaching program.
As a running back/strength and conditioning coach at Brandon High School in Brandon, Fla., Wright-Lester helped the Eagles in rushing with 183.4 yards per game in 2023. He became a Soldier Coach with Soldiers to Sidelines where he experiences several coaching workshops throughout the year. Wright-Lester joined the New York Jets Coaching Workshop in 2023. He was named Soldier Coach of the Month and was invited to Washington D.C. for a Leadership Legacy Dinner.
Wright-Lester became area director and All-Star Elite trainer for Camp Gladiator in 2015, serving the role for nine years.
In 2004, Wright-Lester earned a football scholarship at OPSU. He was a three-year letterwinner and All-District running back at Lawton High School.Â
In 2009, Wright-Lester was assigned to 1/1 AD Brigade at Ft. Bliss. While stationed there, he was immediately deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom to Iraq as a member of the 6/1 Cavalry Delta Troop. He was stationed at Forward Operation Base Warrior, and he served as Power Generator and Heavy Wheel Mechanic.
Wright-Lester returned to the Ft. Bliss and immediately underwent shoulder surgery. Shortly after, he re-enlisted to be stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado in 2010 and was assigned to the 59th MP Company. Wright-Lester was in M.V.A. accident base, where he faced a year and a half of rehabilitation. In 2012 he had the opportunity to join the Army World Class Program as an intern strength and conditioning coach. He helped train Olympic athletes, including boxers, wrestlers, and luge athletes.
In 2014 Wright-Lester was ordered to the 228th Combat Support Hospital at Ft. Sam Houston as an NCO. Upon arrival, he enrolled at UTSA where he worked as a football manager under Coach Jeff Popovich in the spring and summer of 2014, later graduating with a master's in kinesiology pedagogy.
As a U.S. soldier, the former Army SGT has several personal military decorations. Wright-Lester was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army in the spring of 2017. He resides in Apollo Beach, Fla. with his wife, Jessica, four girls and two boys, Esperanza, Soraya, Amaya, Layla, Roger Jr., and Kayden.
