Alex Pennington joined the Bucknell field hockey team as an assistant coach in May 2022.
During the 2022 season, with assistance from Pennington, the Bison finished 3-3 in Patriot League play and earned a spot in the Patriot League Tournament.Â
Pennington arrived at Bucknell after serving as an assistant at Shippensburg where she was part of the 2021 Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year. As the goalkeeping and defensive coach, she helped lead the Raiders to an undefeated season and an NCAA Division II National Championship title.
Shippensburg shut out 12 of its 20 opponents last season and allowed more than one goal just three times. Pennington also assisted with practice planning, scouting, game analysis and team travel during her time with the Raiders.
Pennington also served as the goalkeeping coach for Central Penn Field Hockey Club over the past year, orchestrating Junior Premier Hockey elite and regional tryouts as well as weekly skills training.
Prior to her time in Pennsylvania, Pennington spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Coker University in Hartsville, S.C. while earning her master's degree in college athletic administration. The Cobras went 16-9 with Pennington on staff and captured a South Atlantic Conference title in the spring 2021 season.
On top of her collegiate coaching experience, Pennington has spent time as an instructor with All American Field Hockey Camps, working with athletes ranging from elementary to high school levels.
Pennington played all four years at Ohio, appearing in 45 games and making 33 starts in the cage. She earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training with a minor in applied nutrition in 2019.
