Bucknell University Athletics
Update from Head Men's Soccer Coach Dave Brandt -- September 2024

Dear Bucknell Men’s Soccer Parents, Alumni, and Friends:
Hello and mid-September greetings from Bucknell Men’s Soccer to Bison Nation. Our team has been on campus since August 5, and while the season is still young, we are, and have been, deeply invested for some time and are in the proverbial thick of it at this point.
Season record as I write this is 3-3-0, and, importantly, we are 1-0-0 in the Patriot League, as league play opened this past Saturday, the 14th, and we earned our first three points of the league campaign with a 2-1 home win over Navy. We will host Holy Cross this Saturday at Emmitt Field, with American, West Virginia, and Lehigh to follow, and by then, it will already be early October.
Those of you who have watched us play know we have an exciting mix of returners and newcomers in the team, and it is a “fighting,” extremely intense, and hard-working team and group of players -- all of them an absolute privilege to coach. Our three team captains, seniors Jack Roberto and Aidan Lawlor, and junior Jackson Sullivan have provided genuine, meaningful, and mature leadership to a young group of good players and great kids.
Our team motto is “ubuntu,” a term of South African origin, which essentially means, “I am because we are”, and it is the foundation for a tight brotherhood of selfless, mature leaders, all striving to give their very best, each finding meaning and identity from their connection to the group as a whole. It is a meaningful and deep team culture that will have as much impact on the importance of lifelong relationships in the team, as well as player growth and a sense of purpose, as it will concerning our win-loss record.
It’s an exciting team to watch, and I hope all of you will do your best to see us play sometime this fall at home, on the road if we happen to play near you, or by tuning in online for an upcoming game.
As always, thanks for all of your support. Without that, we have no chance at all to try to provide a life-impacting experience for these players, and, as always, GO BISON!!
