Update from Head Men's Soccer Coach Dave Brandt -- December 2023

Greetings to everyone from what is right now a very cold Lewisburg, Pa.!
I hope winter doesn’t set in too early for us here, and I hope it warms up nicely, of course, before the bulk of our spring season. I have three things to update everyone on in our early December newsletter:
As you all know, results did not go our way, and this past fall was different from the fall we wanted in that sense. That being said, I am fully persuaded and convinced we are building something significant and special that not only can succeed but will. The guys and the efforts here are worthy of your support. We appreciate all you do for us and will continue to push toward widespread respect and success for this program.

I hope winter doesn’t set in too early for us here, and I hope it warms up nicely, of course, before the bulk of our spring season. I have three things to update everyone on in our early December newsletter:
- First, the Annual Josh Butzke Alumni Golf Weekend. More to come, of course, but please consider marking your calendars for our annual Alumni Golf Weekend. We had a great event and weekend last April; this year, we will host the event on Friday, April 19, our 2024 date. Again, there is much more to come, but I hope you will begin to make plans now with classmates, friends, etc., to participate in the 2024 event.
- Secondly, our current team is finishing up classes & looking forward to the spring season. As I write this, there are only four more days of classes before finals start, and most guys will be gone from Bucknell and home by around December 10, so the semester is finishing quickly here. Students return to begin classes on January 16, and that’s when we’ll start our non-traditional season training and team-building for Fall ’24. Our spring competition schedule is in the process of being finalized right now in terms of times, dates, and places, but we are allowed by the NCAA to play five games, plus an alumni game, and so plans now include games against Temple, NJIT, UMBC, Duquesne, and Lock Haven. More details are coming on that as well, in case we are in your area or you can make it to Lewisburg for a home game.
- Finally, I hope you will consider a year-end gift to the program. We depend heavily on financial support from all of you - it’s how the program runs and how we fund team travel, pay officials, feed the team, and just about everything else. Again, even as I write this, recruiting is in full swing. I will travel later today to South Carolina to recruit at a major ECNL event and then to Phoenix next week for a national MLS Academy event. Both are huge events for us regarding finding players; your gifts and support allow us to do that.
