Bucknell University Athletics
Update from Head Rowing Coach Steve Kish -- February 2024
Greetings from the Susquehanna River,
Â
The dock is still in, we had our first row of the semester on January 25th, and it was glorious!
Â
The team is getting faster under their training, and also by addition... as we just invited six of our most powerful and skilled novices to transition to the varsity squad and they are showing a lot of promise. Meanwhile, the training load continues to grow, as does the anticipation of the spring racing semester.
Â
We hope you will consider joining us at one of our away races (in New Jersey and Virginia) or one of our many home events here on the Susquehanna. Our race schedule can be found here: BUWR Spring 2024
Â
Lastly, but most importantly, we continue to work on our team's culture. The excitement that I expressed in my last message, regarding the growth the team experienced during our December training trip, has continued since the semester began on January 16. The seniors and juniors are doing an impressive job at being vulnerable with each other, working to raise the standard of what it means to pursue athletic excellence in a team environment, and working to build momentum with the help of the first-years and sophomores. As alumnae, parents, friends, and supporters of the program, I think you would be proud and impressed if you "looked under the hood" of the race car that this team is developing.
Â
In closing, we have a significant 24-hour period approaching for our program. The annual One Herd One Day 24-Hour Giving Challenge will be on March 26-27 from 10:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Our program has historically been competitive with the sports across the athletic department during the challenge, but we are hoping to take that to the next level this spring. If you have not made a gift to women's rowing or would like to help us win the challenge with an additional gift, please consider supporting these athletes in the One Herd One Day event.Â
Â
Please continue to send your good vibes our way.
Â
Best,
Steve Kish
