Barrickman & Corropolese Receive Men's & Women's Bison of the Week

Barrickman compiled three straight under-par rounds at Colgate's Seven Oaks Golf Club on his way to a two-shot victory at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial. Barrickman, who shot 69-71-69 for a 7-under-par total of 209, is just the second Bucknell freshman ever to win a tournament, and the first to do it in his first collegiate tournament.
Barrickman's first-round, 3-under 69 was the lowest in relation to par by a Bison freshman in his first career round. He started Sunday's final round two shots off the lead, and then battled a pair of Seton Hall players all day for the top spot. Barrickman, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship earlier this summer, began on the sixth hole and jumped out to a par-birdie-birdie start. He bogeyed the ninth, but that was his only blemish of the day. He ended a string of eight straight pars with a birdie at the par-5 18th to grab a one-shot lead over Will Hennessee. Still sitting on that slim lead heading into his final hole, Barrickman closed with a birdie while Hennessee parred his final hole, giving the Bison rookie a two-shot win.Â
As a team, Bucknell posted a 4-over total of 868 (290-291-287), good for a fifth-place finish in a 13-team field. The Bison are back in action in two weeks at The Goat, hosted by Navy at the USNA Golf Course in Annapolis.
Bucknell field hockey ran its record to 4-0 with a second consecutive 2-0 weekend for the program's best start since 1984. Defender Julia Corropolese's defense and goal-scoring has keyed that historic beginning.
Corropolese has seen an expanded role in her senior season after only playing 54 minutes the last two years. The veteran defender has played a monumental role in Bucknell's Patriot League best defense of .75 goals per game. Against Quinnipiac, she preserved Bucknell's 2-1 win over the Bobcats with a clutch defensive save in the waning minutes. Versus undefeated Cornell, Corropolese opened the scoring with a goal off a penalty corner. She and the Bison defense held the potent Big Red to a single goal, despite Cornell attempting 20 shots and generating nine penalty corners.Â
Bucknell field hockey returns to action this Sunday when No. 12 Syracuse visits for a Sunday showdown.Â
