LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (4-5) dropped its fifth straight game in a 3-0 defeat to Penn State (4-4) on Friday night. The Bison fought valiantly against its Route 45 Rivals but couldn't break through the Nittany Lion defense. PSU scored twice before halftime and tallied a late goal to seal its 3-0 win.

Penn State's offense kept hammering away all night at the Bucknell defense. The Nittany Lions conjured 24 shots to Bucknell's four and generated 16 penalty corners to the Bison's five.

Bucknell goalkeeper Sarah Althouse performed admirably against the constant barrage, recording six saves and several times venturing off her line to boot away opportunities via the preventive save method.

Penn State scored three minutes and 48 seconds into the contest when Ella Gaitan scored the first of her two goals. Sienna Dunn sent in an excellent pass and Gaitan sprinted past the defensive line to send the shot past a charging Althouse.

Natalie Freeman added PSU's second goal on a brilliant individual effort when she darted around three or four Bison defenders before depositing the ball in the cage.

Bucknell had several chances in the fourth quarter to cleave the deficit in half but could not convert its penalty corner opportunities.

Gaitan supplied the insurance goal with less than four minutes remaining. A ball got loose in the circle. Althouse raced forward to corral it but an errant stick sent the ball into Gaitan's sphere of influence. The Nittany Lion located the opening cage and scored for the second time.

Bucknell heads to Holy Cross this Saturday for a pivotal Patriot League showdown.
