Water Polo Splits Day One of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell men's water polo (4-6, 0-1 MAWPC) split the first day of the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, losing 21-11 to #5 Fordham (8-0, 2-0 MAWPC) and defeating Salem (2-7) 15-9.

Fordham Recap

Bucknell kept pace with the Rams for a quarter and a half before the fifth-ranked team pulled away from a determined Bison squad. The teams were tied at 6-6 before a 3-0 Rams run ended the quarter. Fordham, from that 6-6 deadlock, finished the game on a 15-5 stretch.

Pier Giorgio Cicchetti and Tyler Hedblad led Bucknell with three goals.

The Bison and Rams battled to a 5-5 first quarter, as Bucknell sought its second ranked win of 2026 after upsetting #20 St. Mary's last weekend.

The even pace continued into the second period with both teams tallying a goal. Fordham proved why it was a top five squad by using a 3-0 run to establish breathing space at halftime.

Bucknell continued to score in the second half but could not keep up with Fordham's potent offense. The Rams kept the Bison at bay and refused to allow any massive runs.

Salem Recap

Bucknell outscored Salem 9-4 in the second half to avoid the upset after only leading the Tigers 6-5 at halftime.

Jack Dillane paced Bucknell with four goals. He also drew seven exclusions and grabbed three steals.

For the second straight game, the Bison were tied after the first quarter. Both squads scored three goals.

Bucknell inched ahead at halftime by scoring three more goals and holding Salem to two.

The Orange & Blue defense kept the Tigers at bay in the second half. The offense broke free from the Salem pressure and found the net nine times for Bucknell's fourth win of 2026.
