Men's Water Polo Hosts Bucknell Invitational This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell men's water polo (3-5) opens its home schedule this weekend with the annual and highly competitive Bucknell Invitational on Sept. 19-20. The Bison face Fordham (10 a.m.) and Salem (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday and Wagner (11 a.m.) and LIU (4:30 p.m.) on Sunday. The Fordham and Wagner games are MAWPC matches.

The Inside "Herd" on the Bison

Bucknell posted a 2-1 record at last week's Princeton Invitational. After dropping a 16-9 decision to #17 Santa Clara where the Broncos outscored the Bison 6-0 in the final quarter, Bucknell rebounded with its first ranked win since 2023 by upsetting #20 St. Mary's 14-9 and stonewalling Iona 16-13.
The Orange & Blue were picked third in the MAWPC Preseason Poll.
Tyler Hedblad leads the Bison with 18 goals, followed by Jack Dillane and Sean Tunnicliff tied for second with 17 tallies.
David Dumitru has recorded 63 saves.
Gio Pier Cicchetti, a rookie, has 38 points on ten goals and a team-high 18 assists.
Bucknell has played six ranked Division I teams in eight goals, and seven ranked teams overall, if including Division III Occidental.

Opposition Overview

Fordham sits 6-0 with four ranked wins over #6 UC Davis, #9 Pepperdine, #11 Pacific, and #11 San Jose State. The reigning MAWPC champions open conference play this weekend with three games.
Salem is 2-6 with wins over Mercyhurst and Washington & Jefferson. The Tigers dropped a game to Iona.
Wagner owns a deceiving 1-8 record. The Seahawks have played seven ranked opponents. Wagner has 1-1 against non-ranked foes losing to LIU in overtime and defeating MIT.
LIU is 4-5 and enters the weekend on a three-game losing streak. The Sharks started the season 3-1 at the Bruno Classic.
